Depression is a common, biologically based illness that can impact anyone in any walk of life.

You may become depressed if you experience a negative or stressful life event, such as a breakup. Depression may also have no clear trigger and seem to come on “out of the blue.”

If you are experiencing sadness that persists longer than two weeks and interferes with your life, it is time to seek help.

The good news about depression is that effective, empirically-supported treatments exist including psychiatric medication and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I offer CBT to adults with depression and other mood disorders.

I also offer Schema Therapy (ST), a type of CBT developed specifically for resolving chronic mood and interpersonal problems.

In addition to these treatments, I frequently collaborate with psychiatrists in treating patients when a combination of psychotherapy and anti-depressant medication could be helpful.

If you do not already have a psychiatrist and would like to pursue medication treatment, I will refer you to a trusted colleague. Though I can make recommendations based on your particular needs and treatment preferences, the decision of whether to seek psychiatric treatment is completely your own.

Examples of mood disorders that I treat include major depression, persistent depressive disorder (chronic low mood), postpartum depression, grief, and adjustment disorders.
